Back-up data from your mobile phone.

There was always a desire to have an easy and convenient method to back-up all important data from our mobile phones to a safe place. We had options in Nokia for e.g., to back-up the memory of the phone to the memory card. Later if the data is lost or gets deleted, we could restore it from the card memory to phone. we also had Nokia PC suite, a software which helps in synchronisation with phone and also lets us make entries in contacts and write messages using computer and read it on the computer. It aslo was helpful to upload multimedia files, and connect to internet using phone as external modem. It also worked well when we wanted to move few applications into the phone.
But since it is a software, it needs to be installed on the computer. Main disadvantage is, it is local synchronisation with your PC using data cable or Bluetooth connectivity. Also the data is stored locally. Data loss is a disater for people who store huge amount of information, data on their devices. At times we regret when we are unable to recover the lost data. Until we lose it, we don't realize it's importance, or how difficult it was for us to get it or store it. Backing up the data helps in immediate recovery and restoring it at right places in the phone's features. I found PC suite a good option, but now when i came across ovi from Nokia, this was something i was looking for. User friendly, secure, password protected, easy back-up of the mobile phone data on remote servers. The advantage is no more connectivity and all that data cable stuff. No more worry about data getting stored on local machines. No more data loss. Best of all remote synchronisation connecting via access point to a remote host, through https (443) and all you need is sync feature, and create the sync profile which you will receive from ovi, and you need internet (or even wap) enabled on your phone.
The next post would be on OVI features, until then bye-bye :)
